    A Belgian woven jacquard wall tapestry. The origins of this tapestry, also called Le Feu, are uncertain. Nonetheless, it is one of the most elegant and intricately woven tapestries ever created. Best estimates are that the original was woven in the 17th century and that it was a coat of arms used as a design for an extravagant door. The original is still on display at Versailles.     Grandes Armoiries Red French Wall Tapestry red

      This Flemish wall tapestry, Grandes Armoiries Red, was designed by Pierre Josse Perrot. Different versions were woven at the Gobelins at the beginning of the 18th century. The original pieces are at the Louvre and at the Versailles castle. The arms are those of the French Kingdom: three gold fleurs de lys on azure blue, woven on a red background. Also known as Grandes armoiries fond rouge.

        This tapestry depicts a view of Versailles from the Avenue de Paris (c. 1662) as it looked prior to its expansion by Louis XIV. The design of this jacquard wall tapestry is inspired from a painting by Pierre Patel (1605-1676). This impressive view from Versailles' castle and gardens would be the oldest representation of the abode.

          After the famous set of twelve tapestries Les Maisons Royale designed by Charles Le Brun (1619-1690) and woven from 1668 to 1711 by the Royal Manufacture of Gobelins. Allotted to the decoration of royal houses or used as diplomatic presents, all those tapestries were created to the glory of the King of France, Louis XIV (1638-1715).             Marie Antoinette: this decorative tapestry pillow cover is made in the likeness of the embroidery that was at the head of Queen Marie-Antoinette's bed. Jean-Francois Bony designed and produced this decorative embroidery which has been kept at Versailles since its creation in 1786. It features roses and lilies, the Queen's favorite flowers.
